Huntington Hospital's bequest language

One way for you to support Huntington Hospital's mission is to make a gift to the hospital in your will or trust. One significant benefit of this type of gift is that it allows you to continue to use the property you will leave to charity during your lifetime. Another benefit is the lasting legacy that is created by a gift in your will or trust.

Types of Testamentary Gifts

There are a number of ways you can provide for Huntington Hospital in your will or trust. You can leave what is called a specific gift, which involves making a donation of a specific asset such as real estate, stock, or other property. For example, you may wish to leave your home, specific shares of stock or a valuable work of art to Huntington Hospital.

You also can leave Huntington Hospital a gift of cash, for example, stating that Huntington Hospital is to receive $10,000.

Another option is a residual gift, which is made from the balance of an estate after the estate has paid its debts and costs, and given away each of the specific gifts and cash donations. You can leave the entire residue of your estate to Huntington Hospital. A common residual gift involves leaving of a percentage of the residue of the estate to charity. For example, you may wish to leave 30% of the residue of your estate to Huntington Hospital.

Benefits

There are no limitations on gifts made through a donor's will or trust, and such gifts may be made for a general or specific purpose. All such gifts are exempt from federal estate taxes.
